I went to Washington D C with 4000
friends............
and made several others while there, We spoke to
waiters,cab drivers,shuttle drivers,bartenders, people on the street,shop
clerks, and...............lots and lots of Fishermen.
I am...... was very interested in others
viewpoints on what is happening, and what has transpired with their
lives...........
Like Us ......They have been severely affected by
our economy, and by our federal governments restrictions on our way of life.
There exists an air of gloom, subtle, yet oppressive.............
Most spoke freely and quite
enthuasiastically.........
Its almost like an awakening, that , yes there is
a change..........
but its ...........coming, and from the
People!!!!!!!!!!
This air of indifference that these incumbant's
have so long coveted, is being looked on with contrite....
Rattleing around is this concept that the internet
will connect those long left to suffer in their lone battle against impossible
odds, which has always been the conclusion that we just ' accept' life on their
terms.........that each decision thoughtless lawmakers have passed down are
carved in stone.
Walking thru the 'Rotunda' in the Arcives and
seeing on a very weathered piece of parchment , whose words began "WE THE
PEOPLE"...........starts one believing that some things only appear
impossible.
We take many people fishing that do not live in
coastal states, many own property here........
many are very very welcome 'Snowbirds', some are
'Spring Breakers', most are vacationeers and have adopted the 'Emerald Coast' as
their second home........As we all know , the fish that reside in the Gulf
..........
belong to them.........
In order to change a law, there must be support
from senators and congressmen from all these states which do not have a fishing
community of their own, and thats why we share Ours ....freely, and with
compassion........
Why we must involve all those that live in those
states yet come here, their second home........
its time for a rally CRY!!!!!! That we plead with
them to invest some very valuable time in stressing the importance...... of them
contacting their senators and congressmen that our fight is indeed theirs and
that they will adorn themselves to shed this mantle of oppression.
My thoughts are .........We.........form a Union,
and take it upon ourselves to involve them in our issues,
the Conservation Co-operative of Gulf Fishermen,
started out with this idea, yet was abandoned, as the issues we face, has tore
apart our sincere Unity.
The solution we seek , will not come quickly or
easily.
I do know Michael Eller went to Washington 2 years
earlier as some may not know or remember, to try and simply get MSA changed, yet
upon leaving ,saw this as an impossible task, I believe , as I am hoping he does
too, and will respond to my tirade.....That this task now may not be as
impossible as some thought.
I am praising those who made this journey, and not
just from Destin or PC, but even to a young lady Rhonda Maker an out of work
fisherman from Alaska.
We can come together, not seperate, I have had
issues with this, I can assure you that the only destiny 'enviromentalist's'
seek is our timely demise.
I had the enjoyment while there to speak with some
"Green peace constituants' while in Georgetown. Their comment to me was they
'will' end all fishing...........
my very humble opinion
while accompanying some very wonderful people on a
humbling journey.
